Spam Honeypot Catch
Last week I wrote about an Akismet modified plugin for WordPress which we are using as a blog comment spam honeypot. Recently the honeypot caught an interesting comment whose content was only a link to a website:
hxxp://krojamsoft.com/confickerwormremover.php (do not visit this link)
Basically this site is advertising a program that removes infections from the Conficker virus. It allows you to download the supposed “remover” but all this does is show you a window where you can enter the “removal registration key” and prompts you to buy a key for $19.
Of course the entire thing is just a fraud. If you happen to fall for it, the only thing this program does is to launch a real Conficker Remover from a well known antivirus company, which you can get for free anyway.
If you do happen to suspect having an infection, make sure to scan your PC with Panda ActiveScan or simply install Panda Cloud Antivirus Free Edition, Editor’s Choice for Best Free Antivirus.
Sorry for posting this here, but the comments on the Panda USB Vaccine post are closed. I know that it’s a free utility and thus probably not a high priority one for you guys to invest time and effort in, but it’s really, really good and I was wondering if you’ll ever release an updated version with full stable NTFS support? As of now I’m a bit reluctant to enable that beta option on my main production machine.
@Sandra we’ve had already millions of users of the beta NTFS vaccination technology and it is pretty stable. If we do release it as non-beta it will be pretty much the same thing as you see now in the current version 1.0.1.4, so you may safely use it even though it says beta.
Hi! Pedro, I would like to ask you something. My USB used vaccinate auto run and it works. But the problem is I cannot copy and search my document after I vaccinated on my USB. Could you give me some comment to remove the Panda USB vaccine? Thank you.
@Tepy it sounds as your USB key might have a different type of problem. Try opening a command-prompt and running the command “chkdsk /f” on the USB drive. More info by running “chkdsk /?”.
