Panda Internet Security 2009 BETA

June 19th, 2008 Pedro Bustamante

We've recently released the new Panda Internet Security 2009 to public beta. This is the first product to use "scanning from the cloud" technology based on Panda's Collective Intelligence [PDF] as the first line of defense against new malware.

This new approach to security allows us to detect new malware faster by not having to rely on traditional antivirus signatures, with a much lesser resource impact on each PC thanks to the use of white-listing technologies to improve scanning efficiency.

Users of Panda Internet Security 2009 become part of the Collective Intelligence community and act as "sensors" which provide telemetry to determine, thanks to correlation and statistical algorithms, which malware is really prevalent and affecting users worldwide.

In addition to this new layer of security, which encompasses all previous ones, our products continue having traditional signatures, advanced heuristics, TruPrevent behavioral analysis and blocking, intrusion prevention and other protection techniques found in previous versions.

You can sign up for the beta at http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/downloads/beta/.

UPDATE: The beta period has finished. You can now download your version of Panda 2009 from http://www.pandasecurity.com.

    Dear Pedro,

I am very disappointed in Panda. Right now I am on hold with Mastercard to try and recall my 175€ payment for Panda Internet Security 2009.

I wrote you earlier this week, but I neither got an answer nor saw my comments posted.

I have been trying for over a week now to get it installed. I have Windows Vista and just keep getting the same error message every time.

Traces of ealier version detected, they will now be removed, restart then relaunch. So I do, and it does not work.

I tried your generic uninstaller several times. It does not work.

I posted several requests on the Panda tech support site, no answer.

I called every number given by Panda, no answer.

What kind of a company is this?
I am going to try to block or re-claim my payment. Defective products should not be sold to helpless customers who then get no help and no response.

    Phillip

    hello pedro,

i seem to have a very similar problem as phillip, i have stopped counting my restarts ;) . i’m running windows xp SP3 and wanted to upgrade to IS2009. during the first install it hung itself up somewhere, then i tried to remove is2008 which seemed to work, but at every isntall attempt i get the “traces of previous installations have been detected” message. the generic installer doesn’t seem to work (i even ran it with the administrator account in windows safety mode), and it does not restart the pc after it seems to have finished. in the pav-install log it gives reason 262145 for the failed install (at least it seems that way, it depends on if i translated razon correctly. btw: it would be really cool if such debug information would be in english ;) . i hope you can help me out…

hi again, i seem to have figured it out…either the generic installer has to be used under the same account the original installation happened with (something i should have thought of), or the retailuninstaller from the german site http://pandatechnik.de/blog/2008/09/17/installation-fehler/ did the trick. installation worked and it seems everything is running smooth

Phillip, severin and all. We’ve updated the Generic Uninstaller to fix the issues above. You can download it from here:

On my mother’s computer, running XP and trying to install IS2009, neither of the above generic installers worked on the “traces of…” problem. It still comes up with the “failed installation” message and tries to install the software each time the computer is booted up.

Is it possible there are other software conflicts preventing this from working? Can anyone give me a clue?

Daphne, first try to uninstall all Panda versions from the Control Panel (Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select each Panda item and click uninstall). After you have done this, reboot, download the above Generic_Uninstaller.exe and run it. Afterwards it should allow you to install IS2009 perfectly.

I tried a trial version of IS 08,and when I tried to uninstall it my computer crashed. It had to go back to HP and they replaced the hard drive. I liked the anti virus and firewall and would love to try IS 09 but I am really nervous to do so. I would like to compare it to other products. How simple is to completely uninstall 09?

IT is really straight-forward to uninstall. Simply go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, choose Panda and click uninstall. Remember to reboot after uninstall and you should be done.

On Dec 21st, I installed Panda Global 2009 on 4 machines : 2 XP home, 1 XP Pro, 1 Vista. Afterwards I installed a piece of garbage called
Iolo System Mechanic which came with Network Magic Pro. Somehow it affected the ability of the Panda Firewall/AV to do it’s job and I ended up with some kind of virus that disabled Panda’s ability to scan any hard drive by inserting said hard drives in the exclusions list. All attempts to remove exclusions were thwarted. Scanning from the CD upon reboot produced nothing of value and actually hung several times on the one machine in a DUMP file. All atempts to discover the nature of the infection with Panda were fruitless. Uninstalled and reinstalled met no success. Uninstall does not remove everything ala Norton. Installed and ran AVG and again, no real help. And, might I say their Firewall setup is AWFUL !
Tried using another hard drive ( backup on the shelf ) in the one machine but it was immediately infected over the network from the other XP Home machine. Am now running Rising AV which found a trojan in the System32 folder. I have lost absolutely all confidence in Panda. I have used Panda products for 2 years and was well pleased. I switched the one XP Home machine to Panda from Kazpersky because of Kaz’s prediliction to hog all system resources. BIG mistake !!!

I sent an email to Tech Support and was told I’d have to call them to resolve the issue. I have spent 3 days trying to correct this issue. I bought 2- 3 License copies of Global 2009 and am thoroughly disgusted and dissatisfied.
