Panda ActiveScan 2.0

March 31st, 2008

We've been working very hard over the last few months to integrate all our online scanners (ActiveScan 1.0, NanoScan & TotalScan) into a single new scanner that rules them all. The result is the new Panda ActiveScan 2.0 (www.pandasecurity.com/activescan) which we're about ready to publish between today and tomorrow.

In addition to detecting and disinfecting all types of malware (virus, worms, trojans, ad/spyware, rootkits, etc.), it also integrates some of our latest detection technologies which we have been playing with:

  • Genetic Heuristics Engine to detect unknown malware and new variants.
  • Specialized heuristics for cybercrime and identity theft trojans.
  • Anti-rootkit technology for detecting acitvely running rootkits.
  • Scanning from the cloud uses Collective Intelligence community detections of malware & goodware processes loaded in memory.

One of the new and interesting things we're doing with ActiveScan 2.0 is tracking the infection rates of PCs that are infected even though they are using an up-to-date antivirus. And we're also tracking this on a per-vendor basis. Therefore we are able to see the percentage of Symantec users who are infected even though they are up-to-date, McAfee users, Trend users, Panda users, Kaspersky users, etc.

Last year I published a research study about infection rates on protected systems where we saw that a whopping 23% of the PCs that had up-to-date antivirus products were actually infected with malware.

Are you planning to redirect the current panda users, from the totalscan pro to the new ActiveScan 2.0?… since the idea is to put everything in just one place (a very good idea).

Dude, avast! said your scanner had a virus in it.

Jon, Buddee, yes we will add live stats in the future.

Joao, yes we’ll redirect TotalScan Pro users to ActiveScan 2.0 eventually. It’s in the roadmap.

Aurea, sounds like the communication might have been cut off during the download. Try again and if the ActiveX install is complete you should be able to disinfect right away.

Anonymous, the avast detection of some Panda files is a known false positive. Will be fixed in our next engine. Please disregard the message from avast.

Well, it didn’t work. All I keep getting is an error page that tells me virtually nothing. Is this down or am I the problem again?

You seem to use ASP.NET in your web site… and it gives error every single time I visit it, the pages that gives error is anyone I go, and then it comes back to normal. It even gives error of exception in download pages to clients… I does Panda Security use ASP.NET in is web site? If it is giving problems to clients and visitors all the times… maybe PHP and Apache would be better… I think, and asp.net only for ActiveScan if you need ASP.NET to implement it… it would be better to use JAVA… for compatibility improvement over browsers.

I have bought the new product “Panda ActiveScan 2.0″ and according to instructions I should go to
http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan and then I will find a place that says: “Estoy registrado” and I shall introduce my login and “contraseña”. But I have not been able to get that “special” page, so I cannot get the product I have already paid for.
I would really appreciate an answer. Thank you.

Patricia, on the uppoer left corner of the http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan page you can change the language. And on the bottom right corner there’s an “already registered, login” link. Make sure you received and email to activate your account first.

I have Panda IS 2008. When will you redrict your customers to Activescan instead of Nanoscan¨?

Jonas, we’re working on it so you don’t have to re-validate with user/pass when we redirect you automatically.

Jokula, sounds like the communication between you and our servers might have been cut off during the update process. Try again and let us know if it worked.

Just started using ActiveScan 2.0 and I can’t say enough good things about it.

Am facing similar problems as “Jokula”. Several atempts to upload ActiveScan 2.0 apparently failed. I keep receiving “upload error” messages.
    Any solution? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I think you should make this run on 2003 server. The current virus we have disables the pav scheduler service and renders panda useless. On top of that you should have a manual way to update the dats on adminsecure so you can at least run a scan with the latest dat. On a client you can manually install it so why on earth not on a server?

So, if we have the new 2009 software we can also access, Panda ActiveScan 2.0, if so how. So when I direct my friend and new clients, to your product thy can have access to the bets and most powerful package.

ActiveScan 2.0 update failed on IE7. Attempted 4 times, everytime stoped at 6% to 7% (for 15+ mins).
    Update succeeded on FireFox 3.0.8.
